Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is an SA Web Award?

An SA Web Award is an award given to the owner or designer of a website that stands above the rest because of its content and design.

We have three award levels, depending on a website's evaluation score:
Gold Award - For websites scoring 90% and higher
Silver Award - For websites scoring from 80% to 89%
Bronze Award - For websites scoring from 70% to 79%

  • What makes SA Web Awards different?

It's not easy to win an SA Web Award. We have a comprehensive website review process and we don't hand out awards unless a website really deserves one. And that's what makes us different! It also means that our web awards are more meaningful.

  • How do websites get nominated for an SA Web Award?

You may submit your own website for review by clicking here. You may also submit someone else's website on their behalf if you receive permission to do so in advance. A website will be awarded an SA Web Award if it meets our award criteria.

  • Can any website be submitted for review at SA Web Awards?

Only websites that have a connection to South Africa are eligible for an SA Web Award. We also have some other restrictions.

See our terms and conditions for more information.

  • How long does it take for a website to be reviewed?

Website reviews usually take between 3 and 4 weeks. This gives us enough time for three or more judges to review your website, and for us to collate the results. The results are emailed to the site's owner or webmaster when the review is complete.

By becoming a judge you can assist us in the website review process. The more judges we have, the shorter the waiting period becomes for website reviews.

  • What do the judges look for in a website?

Our judges evaluate websites according to four categories: content, layout, functionality and overall appeal.

See the judging criteria for more information.

  • I submitted 2 similar websites, but they got different scores?

This is quite possible because each website is reviewed by a different group of judges.

Our control process should ensure that different judges arrive at similar scores, but this is not guaranteed. It is possible, for example, that one group of judges might give an overall score of 69% (no award) whereas a different group of judges might arrive at an overall score of 71% (Bronze award). This is an acceptable variance within our judging process. One of the reasons that we get at least 3 judges to review each website is to keep these variances as small as possible.

See our terms and conditions for more information.

  • Can I resubmit my website?

    1. If you have made improvements to your website since the last time it was reviewed (preferably after ordering your website's full report from us) then you may resubmit your website.

Instructions for ordering the full report are included in the email you receive after your website has been reviewed.

    2. If you have made substantial changes to the content and layout of your website then you may resubmit your website.

See our terms and conditions for more information.

  • How long is my SA Web Award valid for?

Your SA Web Award is valid for the lifetime of your website, as long as the overall look and feel of your website does not change substantially. If you make significant changes to your website then we may withdraw your SA Web Award. However, withdrawing awards is rare and usually occurs only if we feel that your "new" website is not as good as the original version.

See our terms and conditions for more information.

  • How can I tell my friends about my SA Web Award?

Anybody can visit our Verify Award page. You can also display our official award logo on your website with a link to our website that will verify that you received an SA Web Award.

  • How can I become one of the SA Web Awards judges?
