Judging Criteria

Websites submitted to SA Web Awards are evaluated according to four categories: content, layout, functionality and overall appeal. The judges' scores for each category can be viewed by the website's owner or webmaster after the website has been reviewed.

Content

Our judges look at the composition of a website and at how effectively the site's character is communicated to visitors. All aspects of the site's content are considered - information, text, graphics, animation and sound.

Layout

The way a website is structured determines how user-friendly it is. When considering a site's layout, our judges take into account details such as the time taken to work out how the site operates, the ease of navigation around the site and the general look and feel of the site.

Functionality

Our judges are interested in the performance of a website and in how well it functions. Points considered are how quickly the site loads, whether there are any broken hyperlinks, whether the site displays correctly in different browsers, how interactive the site is, and so on.

Overall Appeal

The allure of a website determines whether visitors stay or leave. Will they want to come back? Will they refer their friends and colleagues? The overall appeal is more than a combination of the content, layout and functionality - it is a measure of how well the website satisfies a visitor's interest.
